some of you might think ‘what is he on about?’ but when i heard the new groove armada album for the first time it made me smile immediately and did that again and again (the 1.000.000 times i repeated it). i wonder whether they might be playing that album as a live band as it could sound even cooler when played with live instruments. try it out - interesting to hear your opinion.
after the worst possible personal january there is not much to say about this months new mix apart from music in general having been one great thing to stick to when you fall into a deep hole. the result is another blend of contemporary deep house tunes i have been buying and listening to lately. last weekend should also be mentioned at this point and a big thanks to ingo and some folks in kassel for a great night with even greater music and unbelievable atmosphere till the very (way to) early morning. rock on. enjoy the mix, folks - happy to get some feedback on the blog and seeing you all back in march (the traditional snowboarding month).

nothing special to say about this particular album - just that it is absolutely stunning and there is nothing i look much more forward to right now than their live gig at the end of feb. just give it a try and you will hopefully feel the same way about it.
happy new year to all of you. hope you had a great time over christmas and new year and a good start into 2010. i can only hope this one will take a bit longer than the very fast last year. anyway, like the most of europe we are covered in snow brought to us by “daisy” - hence the credits in this months mix title/cover. i do normally like snow but without a mountain nearby it’s pretty much useless and seems to more or less paralyze our usually “highly efficient” country. hope we will have enough of it by the beginning of march when we leave for a week of boarding to austria. enough chat - the january mix goes right back into the time of deep cuts, which was one of my first mix series years ago focussing on the deep side of house. that is what i think will be the main direction of my blog in 2010 as that sound is still one of my favorites. the mix is an excerpt or a short version of a radioshow (soundlook) i was guestmixing with my mate timo. it was aired as a 2hr-version on www.byte.fm and is a frequent every first wednesday of the month. highly recommend on http://www.byte.fm if you fancy the deep house - and who doesn’t? so i hope you enjoy what you hear and as usual i am happy to receive some feedback from you guys - either by email or in the feedback section. this section seems to become rather something of a retrospective as the recommendations tend to be as old as the internet. strangely enough i got back into many old albums in the past few months and there is no reason to hold them back but share those jewels with you. One for All is the debut album by east-coast hip hop group Brand Nubian. it was released on Elektra Records on december 4, 1990. the album was highly acclaimed for its politically charged and socially conscious content. unfortunately or maybe fortunately sales never matched the wide acclaim—the album has only sold 350,000 copies to date—but it has remained in print since its 1990 release. it has everything a good hip hop album needs, soul, beats, groove and lyrics. love it (if only for the cover shot) or leave it, i love it!
This is it for 2009. For the first time i was able to release a new mix every month and would like to thank everybody for listening, giving feedback, supporting or just liking the music. It’s been a great but weirdly short year with lots of trips, changes of and at work, cycling, hockey, great parties - mainly lots of great moments shared with the right people. The mix means quite something to me as it takes me back right to the beginning where everything around the music started for me and since then that sound was rarely more alive to me than this year! Thx to Dhru for an evening session of collecting tunes! I wish everyone merry x-mas with your peeps and all the best for 2010. We will hear each other again in January! Brrr…it has been awfully rainy this month in Hamburg and it doesn’t seem to get better. But the cold has had some good effects as well. More and more quality parties and people in the clubs. Especially as Hamburg finally seems to have gotten a quality club with the newly opened EGO run by the DIYNAMIC label. We had a great night there with Julius and some other guys from an evenly recommendable place in Hamburg, in case you fancy quality electronic music preferably on vinyl - Smallville Records. This months mix turns back the time for with a return to some deeper yet melodic stuff to dance to and i hope it proves once again that a proper groove to dance to is the least about the BPM.
