happy new year to all of you. hope you had a great time over christmas and new year and a good start into 2010. i can only hope this one will take a bit longer than the very fast last year. anyway, like the most of europe we are covered in snow brought to us by “daisy” - hence the credits in this months mix title/cover. i do normally like snow but without a mountain nearby it’s pretty much useless and seems to more or less paralyze our usually “highly efficient” country. hope we will have enough of it by the beginning of march when we leave for a week of boarding to austria. enough chat - the january mix goes right back into the time of deep cuts, which was one of my first mix series years ago focussing on the deep side of house. that is what i think will be the main direction of my blog in 2010 as that sound is still one of my favorites. the mix is an excerpt or a short version of a radioshow (soundlook) i was guestmixing with my mate timo. it was aired as a 2hr-version on www.byte.fm and is a frequent every first wednesday of the month. highly recommend on http://www.byte.fm if you fancy the deep house - and who doesn’t? so i hope you enjoy what you hear and as usual i am happy to receive some feedback from you guys - either by email or in the feedback section. this section seems to become rather something of a retrospective as the recommendations tend to be as old as the internet. strangely enough i got back into many old albums in the past few months and there is no reason to hold them back but share those jewels with you. One for All is the debut album by east-coast hip hop group Brand Nubian. it was released on Elektra Records on december 4, 1990. the album was highly acclaimed for its politically charged and socially conscious content. unfortunately or maybe fortunately sales never matched the wide acclaim—the album has only sold 350,000 copies to date—but it has remained in print since its 1990 release. it has everything a good hip hop album needs, soul, beats, groove and lyrics. love it (if only for the cover shot) or leave it, i love it!
